VR4–Whimsies Attic

We had a decent lesson on exploring the challenges and opportunities in non-linear composition for non-linear narrative structures through presentation and discussion, before an introductory workshop on non-linear sound production in FMod.

For most sounds that you hear, air is a linear medium. That is, the sound pressure in the air is simply the sound pressures from every source contributing sound added together. The ocean is also a linear medium for sound. Examples of non-linear sounds include the distress calls of wild animals, a child’s cry, and sudden and unpredictable frequency changes of acoustic instruments. It is very common for scary scenes in movies to be accompanied by non-linear sounds to exploit the human brain’s natural aversion to distressing sounds.

It would been good if we decided to make everything spacial and we could use Fmod with everything. Sadly we decide not to, as we currently only have one visual people practically doing the thing. And we aim not to throw too much pressure on her.

I effectively worked on the realistic sounds for three project: Whimsy Attic, Fairytale and the Village. I think we dont have any sound script at this stage, which means everything I have made would/ would not be helpful. As we are gonna have our first crit next week, and I am responsible for the foley sounds. I uploaded them all on the google drive. I think it is always helpful to save sounds on a hard drive and later on it could expand to a bigger library.
