Live Theatre Personal Collective: The Village (Sound Team)

The Village – Site-Specific, Immersive Theatre in Soho & Chinatown

The Village was a multi-location immersive theatre piece devised and staged by Persona Collective inside Soho & Chinatown. The live shows took place from 30th March until 19th April 2023. This project celebrates the diversity & tolerance of Soho’s local community & indie businesses with a narrative based on real voices and in real unique locations in the local area. This projects was supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England.

The audience found themselves stepping into an intimate journey across multiple secret locations throughouthttps://www.are.na/everyone_love?group_notification_email&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=group_notification Soho & Chinatown; weaving through hidden passageways. Their journey was a multi-sensory experience – somewhere between fiction and reality. Each group of audience were following one character’s story, whilst witnessing threads of multiple narratives throughout their journey. Audience members described the experience as “being immersed inside of a film” or as “hyper-real, it was never clear whether something was reality or an artistic construct”.

Through out the project we worked closely with the LGBTQ+ communities and Soho’s local businesses & residents. Together we co-created a multi-location immersive theatre & build a set/installation in a gallery, all in Soho.

This is my first time working in this huge professional group and the whole performance from the preparation to the end ends like two months. Our sound team team leader is Jose, who is a tutor in LCC. I am feeling happy and committed of what I have been doing.

In the main time, I was mainly in the Follow ‘FALLEN’: “A trio of fallen guardian angels explore the seedy underworld of Soho. One has just arrived on Earth, and is equal parts confused and amazed. The other has been around humans for hundreds of years, but is only just starting to truly feel human emotion as they find themselves falling in love for the first time. The other finds employment in menial tasks, whilst searching for their forgotten memories. Follow these beguiling characters as they navigate the complexities of gender expression and queer love. Experience sensual and sleazy Soho through the fresh perspective of their eyes, from falling in and out of love to finding peace from inner conflict”  – by Harper Walton (performer in The Village) doing the sound assistant. I feel very stressful on doing this big event, to get it a right volume on the mixing table, and there are no cues…
