Canal Dream CIC (Performer)

I went to this modern contemporary gig to get some inspirations for my next music performance on a boat!!! The first session was Trio Farben playing Takemitsu’s 1992 work ‘And Then I Knew’Twas Wind’. I think the composition itself is very beautiful. It has been using a lot of experimental techniques.
The second session was watching Mark Sanders and Oliver Heron Jamming and doing a free improvisation. I felt like using a steinway piano to only play chords would be a bit consuming and lux. The drum is cool though.
The third session would be my favourite part was Callum Murray’s ambient concrete, which only used a laptop. I found it really mediating: I could smell the sea breezing and I loved the electronic flutes and fan sound, it was a nice dynamic in combination.

I think we finally agreed on playing ‘Rolla_3_Duetti_a_Violino_e_Violoncello’ for 10 minutes, and ‘GU SU XING’ by chinese flute and did a free improvisation afterwards. I used condensed microphone to record the whole performance. This is my first time to play electronic synths with classical musicians lively. It was quite awkward sometimes cause you could only hear clearly what is beside you. I think the reason why the whole performance went well was because we layered the instruments in different eqs. The festival went brilliantly well as there were a lot of performers doing different things: Pekking opera, Chinese dance, Jazz&dance, Dramas… We are the only one basically doing music and sound art so I feel very glad that the constitution would give us this opportunity:)
