AR The Last Grimmer tale (Composer/Sound Designer)

The Last Grimmer tale: An AR interactive story that allows the audience to assume the character of Jacob Grimm. He explores his dying brother’s subconscious through five interactive environments. They are filled with fragments of the fairytales the two brothers collected and memories from their lives. Each environment represents one of the five stages of grief, and through his exploration of them, Jacob is finally ready to accept his brother’s passing. It is a project for their final year show, with a bigger and more organised visual group:Martha, Elaine, Elettra and Lucilla, along with me and Jingya doing the sounds. We did the sound effects and ambience sounds together. I also edited the dialogues and composed the motif.

Final AR Submission (Sound would be amend before the graduation show) It is a 360 video

I think I really enjoy the experience of working with this group as everyone is much more professional and organised. It was kind of complicated at first as the visual team prepared so many things to get your mind fly. I kinda of missed out my way when we firstly met. Would I and Jing ya be able to make it? But we did it!

In the game industry, the primary role of a sound designer involves searching audio libraries for suitable sounds for a project on its visual foundation. In cases where the desired sounds cannot be found or licensed, they also have the responsibility of recording sounds in a studio or in real-world environments. These recorded sounds are then processed using a digital audio workstation (DAW) to achieve the desired effect or tone. Obviously, there are not many creative parts for sound people if the visual team is very directional and taking control. For example, the characters, environment and visual effects are already settled in AR Fairytale project when we come into it. So we determine everything we have made; the visual is the main focus. They hold control of their project, so I only know they changed the format of it from VR to AR two weeks before their final show, which isn’t really helpful. I will help them to remix the sounds before their graduation show, as it is not gonna sound right if you let the visual guys import the sounds themselves.
