Portfolio WEEK 5 Social Engagement

We look at the form of participation today.

Protest on no jobs

Image theatre, Imagination theatre, Form theatre Sonic Engagements (eds. Woodland & Vachon, 2023)

We had a workshop on the form theatre. We use our body movements to frame a moment being “impression”. In our group, the victim was being scanned, and two of us was searching in his bags, demonstrated a view of examination in the airpot. We were being asked to switch the power in order to balance the power. Hannah’s Facilitation technique was giving confident to people and repeating the important words.

Then we had a topic on building up a workshop related to “medicine” and “Sound Art” with teenagers. How we got them engaging and taking something back become the focus points. We were thinking to build up some contact mics to hear the raw sounds from medicine.

Activism

UCU strike?– I was participating in the ucu strike community and I dope we had a collective listening in how workers in ual found so depressed. I printed a few posters and zines and sticked around the school. There were also people asking me about what’s going on. I was suggesting maybe I could make a new understandable zine of the key elements(words) and we might be able to do an audio drama on it. We will see how it goes when Annie gets back.

24 words for East London?(My friend is on news)
East London Socialist Core Values

”This is an art action initiated by me, funded and supported by three Chinese friends in the UK, with the direct and indirect help and participation of more than 20 friends, which started in the evening of August 4, 2023, London time.

We will be rich and strong, democracy, civilization, harmony, freedom, equality, justice, the rule of law, patriotism, dedication, honesty, friendliness, a total of 24 words 12 words, with the best wishes for the fate of mankind. With the banner of graffiti, neatly and uprightly engraved in the leaves and garbage fly together, street stalls and graffiti a color of East London Graffiti Street.

When the first rays of sunlight shone into the streets of East London on August 5, the 24 red letters on a white background were absurd and majestic, and the magical journey of all this light had just begun for me …….”

It is irrefutable that all of this is far beyond my imagination, but it has certainly come together as part of the work, to quote Nietzsche’s words in the article by the esteemed Mr./Ms. Canvassius Freeborn, “Fight the dragon too long, and the man becomes the dragon”. The unlawful persecution of me by anti-totalitarian groups using totalitarian methods deserves to wake up the world and show it the horrors of cyber-violence. At the same time, it also questions the democracy and rule of law advocated by the Western world under authoritarianism, reflects on the freedom of expression in art creation, and reveals the “chilling effect” of the art environment.

Yique

My friend Yique did this really suck thing on painting words in red in east London which actually made people look down on me. I had a listened back on the review on this event.

I think the most intriguing part in this was to talk about what is an art piece, what is a social event?

From my perspective, there are two forms of art, rather being [self-expression, self-indulgence] or Information experience design with social engagement and participation. I could potentially say the ucu strike protest is a social engagement because we have put into an aim and an outcome in this event. We make zines, films as well as posters to being supportive, to advertise it, but it is not as special as an art piece. 24 words for East London By Yique would be an art piece, because he does knowing the aim of making.(I mean a sort of self–expression) He does not the reflection of making this happen would put “china” in a very crucial position. Maybe his initial point of making this is something like a instagram art thing, but he is not making this as a red protest war. I feel like the threshold of being a true artist is lower and lower. Everyone is a contemporary artist nowadays. Every behaviour is an art movement to the society.
