Portfolio WEEK 3 Communication

We were mainly talking about the works we are planning for our portfolios and how element1 could be related to element 2. For me, they are still in a very rough foundation. I always found super excited to start a new project but in order to have an aim, it is really underwhelming.

For my Portfolio1, I am aiming to make something in related to Puppetry, micro dramas and experimental films. I am interested in the character: last emperor PuYi which I haven’t had him in my history lesson in my middle school. Is there a reason behind that? Is he being disputed? Followed along this, I am planning to make an album ( A bit organised rather than improv). I was reading this: Which famous film soundtracks were recorded only using VSTs? Followed by an interested answer. Annie suggested my focus on the flow of emotion.

“Typically they’ll use VST’s for the concept piece and the scratch recording, and then will record over it with a live orchestra. I would be shocked if any of them kept their fake orchestras in the final cut. I mean, why would you? VST’s are certainly great, but nothing beats the real thing.

I’ve played for Disney before and this is pretty much what happened: I showed up to the studio day of recording, got the sheet music, was given a bit of time to run through it while the audio engineer was setting up, then played over a VST so the VST was playing in one ear and my instrument was playing in the other, finished recording and they deleted the VST cuz there was no use for it anymore, and then I went home.

Edit to add that it’s not that soundtracks don’t use VSTs at all, they just don’t use them in place of real instruments. But you can usually hear synths and whatnot in soundtracks. I actually love the synth/orchestra combo.”

For my Portfolio2, I am willing to make something bigger and wider. (I did Life flash 100+last year and it was a well done success) I was inspired from: A camera worth 60,000 yuan has experienced nearly 300 days and nights, drifted more than 42,200 kilometers, and returned to the hands of its owner, LKS, a journal photographer, bringing back more than a thousand beautiful photos recording human fireworks across the country. Isn’t it interesting? Recently, a “camera rafting” event initiated by UP owner LKs came to a successful conclusion. Not only did his camera return to him intact, but also many accessories were purchased by netizens. He also received items from 34 provincial-level administrative regions across the country. Photos taken by netizens: There are doctors hurriedly recording the taste of the New Year, graduates eating their last “Xiao Long Bao” meal in the school cafeteria, and Taiwanese girls from China looking at the other side of the sea…

I would love to drift a cassette recorder and listen to the voices around the world. But it needs a topic and an aim of doing it. I am also confused on me, putting an aim in doing it. I could not really make it just as an audio documentary, it is not putting much independent thinking in doing it.
